Stoptober 2018

For all of our current and former students on the Oral Health Education course remember this month is Stoptober. Maybe you could create a display in the practice to provide preventative advice to patients.

Stoptober is a national campaign headed by Public Health England which encourages people across the country to stop smoking together on 1 October for 28 days (and beyond). Evidence shows that if a smoker can quit for 28 days they are five times more likely to stay smokefree. Motivation and support are provided before, during and for a period of time after the campaign month.

Changes in CPD for Dental Nurses

Changes to continuing professional development  have been agreed by the General Dental Council (GDC) and will come into force in 2018.

These changes herald the introduction of a personal development plan for each member of the dental team.

This is a tool that can identify areas for further development and encourage lifelong learning, whilst also recording the details of CPD activity with corresponding learning outcomes. This is the first time a personal development plan has been required by the GDC. The changes will happen in August 2018 for dental care professionals.
